Oscars 2019: Predicting All The Nominees

4. Actor In A Leading Role

Vice Christian Bale
Annapurna

It feels like Christian Bale has been the frontrunner in this category ever since the first images of him as Dick Cheney emerged, and the mixed response to Vice hasn't changed that much. Likewise, Bradley Cooper has been in the mix for a long time, while Rami Malek's surprising Globes win - combined with a SAG nomination - put him right in contention here too.

Viggo Mortensen's been doing well too, so it's more likely going to come down to a fight for the fifth spot between Ethan Hawke (First Reformed) and John David Washington (BlackKklansman). Washington took the SAG nomination, which might indicate things are moving in his favour, despite earlier promise for Hawke, but it could really go either way (Daniel Day-Lewis didn't pick up a SAG nod last year, but did at the Oscars). BlackKklansman is doing better across the board though, so Washington just has the edge for now.

Nominees:

Christian Bale (Vice)

Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born)

Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)

Viggo Mortensen (Green Book)

John David Washington (BlackKklansman)
