Oscars 2019: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)
16. Actress In A Supporting Role
Nominees: Emma Stone (The Favourite), Rachel Weisz (The Favourite), Amy Adams (Vice), Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk), Marina De Tavira (Roma)
Who Should Win
Rachel Weisz
All of the performances in The Favourite are great, and still Weisz manages to walk away with the entire thing. She meshes brilliantly with the tragicomedy of Olivia Colman's Queen and the cunning of Emma Stone's Abigail. She does both of those too, but there's a greater balance to her performance: one where the wit is matched by both charm and sheer strength of will.
Who Will Win
Regina King
Regina King has been leading the way since picking up the Golden Globe, and has been the favourite throughout most of awards season, with good reason. She gives a powerful, emotional turn in If Beale Street Could Talk, and is also a well-respected actress who hasn't been recognised before, but is very much having her moment. The lack of SAG nomination dents her chances slightly - Weisz , who won the BAFTA, could swoop in, and it's a strong category overall - but she's still the one to beat.
