As it stands - and it could well change, since it's so far away - the two leading Oscar films are The Irishman and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. It's an obvious pair of shouts, really: anything made by either Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino is immediately considered an Oscar contender, and even more so when you consider those casts.

Once Upon A Time is likely to pick up Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography nominations. That's seven already, before looking at other technicals: it should play well in things like Costume and Production Design too.

The Irishman, meanwhile, is looking likely to have Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Film Editing, and Visual Effects. It too could get into the Design categories, or something like hair and make-up (though it'll be mostly effects). As it stands, both movies are tracking to pick up around 8-10 nominations, which should be enough to have them leading the way when the Oscars roll around.
