Oscars 2022: 10 Possible Contenders For Next Year's Ceremony
5. Nightmare Alley
Guillermo Del Toro's follow up since his film The Shape of Water won Best Picture and Best Director, Nightmare Alley follows a deceptive conman who teams up with a psychiatrist to manipulate people for their own gain.
Del Toro has assembled an all star cast including Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett in the leading roles with a supporting cast that features Rooney Mara (reuniting her with Blanchett since their last Oscar nominated work in Carol), Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe and Richard Jenkins.
Produced by Searchlight Pictures who have won five Best Picture awards since 2009 including The Shape of Water and this year's Nomadland, Searchlight knows exactly how to market a film to the industry and maintain a level of momentum throughout the awards season.
With a likely push for Blanchett and Cooper in lead (take your pick for the push in supporting) and a lot of love for Del Toro's craftmanship that may see him return to the Best Director race, Nightmare Alley has the right ingredients to rack up plenty of nominations next year.
