Oscars 2022: 10 Possible Contenders For Next Year's Ceremony
4. Respect
Whether Respect turns out to be a great film or another bland musical biopic remains to be seen, but either way it will be a huge vehicle for Jennifer Hudson in Best Actress if nothing else. Handpicked to play her by Aretha Franklin herself, Hudson is going to dominate this film and be the major selling point for Respect.
After the chaotic Best Actress race of this year that saw Frances McDormand prevail, don't be surprised if a more concrete frontrunner is settled on to balance the scales next year. Viola Davis narrowly missed out on becoming only the second black woman to win Best Actress and every time that happens, the want and desire to see another non-white actress take the gold increases. If Hudson has the goods, the conversation could very well solidify around her.
Mary J. Blige may also have a chance to pop up in supporting but Hudson is the main attraction. If she can pull off a performance like she did to win her first Oscar for Dream Girls, do not be surprised if Respect gets Hudson to her second.
