Oscars 2022: 10 Possible Contenders For Next Year's Ceremony
3. The Tragedy Of Macbeth
The now three time Oscar winner for Best Actress Frances McDormand could very well be back next year looking to tie Katharine Hepburn's record for her starring role in The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Directed by Joel Coen, in his first feature without the collaboration of his brother Ethan, the latest adaptation of Shakespeare's classic will be filmed in black and white and will star Denzel Washington in the title role. He will be the first actor of colour to portray the character on the big screen.
In addition to Washington's casting, he and McDormand are also older actors than are traditionally cast in the roles and that should provide something fresh for the story.
This will be Joel Coen's ninth film with his wife Frances McDormand and she is definitely an industry favourite right now. Coen, McDormand and Washington have 10 Oscars between them and with A24 backing this film, it is likely to be a major Oscar contender next year. The first Shakespearean adaptation to be a credible threat at the ceremony this century.
