Oscars 2024 Review: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
4. Scorsese's Brutal Oscar Losing Streak Continues
Martin Scorsese's masterful Killers of the Flower Moon sadly went home empty-handed, failing to win even a single one of its 10 Oscar nominations, continuing a rather depressing losing streak for the director's late-career output.
This is Scorsese's fourth film in a row to go home empty-handed, with The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, The Irishman, and Killers of the Flower Moon having a total of 26 nominations between them, yet winning not a single one.
Scorsese's last film to win an Oscar was Hugo back in 2011, which took home five gongs, but since then the Academy has respected his work enough to nominate it, yet not award it outright.
It's a baffling statistic for one of the world's finest living filmmakers, and a streak we'll hopefully see him break in the near future.
