Oscars 2014: 10 Hopeful Best Picture Contenders

6. Inside Llewyn Davis

Chance: Pretty Much Inevitable Show me a Coen Brothers movie that isn't nominated for Best Picture, and I'll show you The Academy's median age of voters. Indeed, it seems that with each passing generation of sweet spot Oscar voters, their power only seems to grow stronger. Their win for No Country For Old Men showed that the Academy is, in fact, picking up what they're throwing down. It's not always a recipe for the win, but if you were to put a standing bet on nominees for The Oscars, you could soundly put $50 on The Coens being nominated pretty much every year they put out a film. When it comes to awards gains though, expect this film to have a definite Best Original Screenplay nomination, as well as Oscar Isaac receiving a Best Actor nomination. If there were any surprises out of this film, it'd be a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Justin Timberlake, who continues to pick awards ready films rather often in his career. (And to think, if he were attached to the Elton John biopic he was rumored to circling a couple of years ago, he'd probably be grabbing that brass ring that much earlier.)
