Oscars: Every Best Picture Winner Ever Ranked From Worst To Best

64. Spotlight (2015)

Surely the most "boring" Best Picture winner in recent years, Spotlight is a competent journalistic drama that desperately wants to be All the President's Men, but if you're honest with yourself, when was the last time you even thought about this movie?

Incredulously beating out the superior The Revenant for the Big One and winning a grand total of just two Oscars - a first in over 60 years - everything in Spotlight is solidly good, but Oscar worthy?

Save for Mark Ruffalo's performance, it's hard to characterise much of the film as even nomination-worthy, especially Tom McCarthy's flat direction, which clearly wants to be unfussed and "grounded", but accidentally veers into tedious.

Recent winners don't come much more uninspired, the worthiness of its message be-damned.
