Oscars: Ranking Every Best Animated Feature Film
2. Spirited Away
In a fairer world, Studio Ghibli would have more Oscars to their name than Pixar, but for now they'll have to settle for the one, which was awarded to their best and most popular movie, Spirited Away, in 2002.
An accumulation of everything Ghibli stand for, Spirited Away has it all and then some; it's supernatural and scary, but also warm and comforting in its portrayal of childhood wonder, and its slick animation style makes it a joy to behold as young heroine Chiriho enters a world unlike any she's ever seen.
Enchanting, thematically challenging, moving and awe-inspiring at every turn, the fantasy adventure is a timeless classic that uses its imaginative tale to shed light on some serious issues - environmentalism, cultural identity, death - whilst being heartwarming and enjoyable for the whole family.
