Oscars: Ranking Every Best Animated Feature Film
12. Up
The fact that Up ranks this low isn't because it's a poor film, but because the other Best Animated Feature winners are so strong. The story of an old man who journeys to his late wife's favourite place in the world and ends up clashing with his childhood idol, this is Pixar at the height of their powers.
Admittedly, the film never tops its heartbreaking opening, which documents Carl and Ellie's time together in the most uplifting and then devastating way possible, but once the rest of the movie gets going it makes for a ludicrously fun action-adventure, complete with talking dogs and a poignant finale.
From the voice work of the late Ed Asner and its iconic imagery, Up is a strong Oscar winner, and though fellow nominees Coraline and Fantastic Mr. Fox were perhaps more worthy of victory, it's still a modern classic that's impossible not to love.
