Overlord Review: 4 Ups & 4 Downs

1. The Awesome Sound Design

Overlord Wyatt Russell
Paramount

If there's one major reason to catch the film in cinemas after all, it's undeniably the absolutely thunderous sound design.

This movie is loud, making you feel every explosion and hail of machine-gun fire like you're actually there, and there's just no way a home viewing will be able to replicate the face-melting appeal of a cinema's elaborate speaker set-up.

You may well leave Overlord with your ears ringing following that chaotic third act, but the crunchy sound effects ensure the pounding volume is well worth some temporary discomfort.

The sound editing is honestly probably better than the rest of the movie deserves, and while it'll obviously be ignored come Oscar time, this is easily some of the most startling and memorable sound design from any action film released this year so far.
