Pacific Rim: 5 Reasons It's The Film of the Summer

2. It's Guillermo del Toro

pacificrim-guillermodeltoro The main man behind everything, Del Toro is part of a new breed of visionary writers and directors, ones are concerned with both spectacle and story, substance and surface at the same time. He makes stories and people that we really connect with and enjoy whilst ensuring that we are entertained on that visceral level that makes us enjoy explosions and fight scenes. Del Toro also has a genuinely sweet heart for adventure and compassion which shines in his characters - none of his characters are ever disposable and everyone is drawn extremely well and with a true sincerity and compassion for people. He actually likes humanity. Guillermo del Toro's own stylistic merits have evolved over time and while working within the big budget of a summer movie might seem like an incongruous shift in tone, but his eye for big, breathtaking and beautiful visuals, emotional storytelling and some fantastic action sequences are perfect for the big silver screen and something we'd really love to see more of from Del Toro.
