Peter Dinklage: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Frank - Death At A Funeral (2010)
Perhaps a bit of a controversial pick here, given that there are two versions of the film (one from 2007). Dinklage is in both, but as I marginally prefer the unrelenting mania of the 2010 incarnation, I'm going to stick it on the list. Death Of A Funeral has an amazing high-concept hook, with an at odds family regrouping to memorialise their recently deceased patriarch. Problem arise when a guest, portrayed by Dinklage, shows up claiming to be the dead man's lover, and if his family want it kept under wraps, they better play ball. Funeral is a more overtly slapstick outing for Dinklage, and in a way he's just playing a slightly more grounded incarnation of Miles Finch. He's initially sweet, but quick to anger and when Dinklage starts laying down threats, thanks to the actor's innate gravitas, you believe him. It's a really silly film, but he's a dangerous, bright spark, and he totally holds his own against the loud, physical work of Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and James Marsden. Like the previous spots on this list, Dinklage doesn't have a whole heap of screen-time, but he still makes an indelible mark on the material. That's the sign of a super performance.
