Peter Dinklage: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
And 5 That Sucked...
5. Marlowe Sawyer - Nip/Tuck (2006)
For the sake of posterity, I should say it's really tough to find genuinely bad Peter Dinklage performances. His stint on Nip/Tuck is a good example of the performance not so much lacking, but the material and his take failing to coalesce. The popular FX show, set around the world of plastic surgeons, had Dinklage in for one season, as a man looking to rectify his height for the sake of an adulterous relationship. Dinklage pitches a similar intensity here as in The Station Agent, but it comes off at odds with the material, which is by nature trashier and less introspective than his 2003 triumph. Dinklage genuinely seems to be trying for truths that the material isn't equipped to accommodate, his moody focus playing out rather transparently against the melodramatic tone of the show. It doesn't help that the relationship between his smaller stature and sex life should be explored so predictably, again in stark contrast to what we see in The Station Agent. This performance definitely has its defenders, but for me, doesn't quite work.
