Peter Dinklage: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
4. Dr. Bolivar Trask - X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014)
With Dinklage's popularity in the geek community at fever pitch, it was only a matter of time before he transitioned into the superhero fold. His bow in the ever-popular sub-genre occurred last year, playing the villainous Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. The film was reasonably good, but Dinklage found himself out-matched by other cast members, leading to an embodiment of Trask that felt perfunctory. Again, it's not horrible acting, and the writing surrounding the part isn't great, but there's no denying Trask comes across as a flat, two-dimensional bad guy for the majority of the film. He scowls, glowers and even wears a sinister lab-coat, but he also lacks presence or flavour. The movie explains why he wants the mutant threat eradicated, but I gotta say, I never really believed it. Dinklage presumably came to set, read his lines and then left with one of the larger pay-cheques of his career. That may sound cynical, but hey, so's the performance. I guess even the greats gotta go for the buck sometimes.
