Peter Dinklage: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Dr. Simon Barsinister - Underdog (2007)
This one's kind of weird. You probably don't remember, but back in 2007, Disney tried to kick-start an Underdog franchise with this flaccid adaptation of the beloved cartoon. The reason you don't remember is because it turned a pretty uninspired $65 million at the worldwide box-office. Anyway, to bring things around, Dinklage is in it as the bad guy. Dinklage is easily the best thing about the film, but kind of in the same way Peter Sarsgaard is the best thing about Green Lantern. There's entertainment to be derived as Dinklage's scientist slowly loses his marbles, forcing the crime-fighting Underdog to take action. It's an incredibly overwrought performance in an otherwise flatter than thou film; Dinklage plots and gurns entertainingly, trying to suppress reactionary cringes to the mess around him. Is it good acting? No. Was it a necessary step in making an fathomably dull movie a little less boring? Maybe. Either way, we think Dinklage probably wants everyone to forget this thing ever happened.
