Pitch Perfect 3 Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

Ups...

3. John Lithgow's Ridiculous Performance

Pitch Perfect 3 John Lithgow
Universal

Though his name's been kept mostly out of the film's marketing, John Lithgow does indeed have a supporting role in the movie as Fat Amy's father Fergus.

Lithgow's appearance is pretty surprising if you've not been paying too much attention to the film's production, but he was featured in one of the film's trailers for a few seconds, so the info has been out in the wild for those who wanted it.

Nevertheless, Lithgow puts on a ridiculous Australian accent as he plays Amy's slimy criminal father, and though he's undeniably slumming it here for an easy paycheck, he is at least clearly having fun, and some of that fun does manage to rub off on the audience.

He knows he's appearing in trash and just decides to ham it up with the best of them. His scenes are some of the film's most peculiar and weirdly watchable, and the sheer WTF factor of him showing up in the movie at all makes his presence an undeniable positive.
