Black Panther is the box office story of 2018 to beat so far, defying cynical expectations that a movie starring a largely black ensemble cast couldn't post gargantuan figures, and once again proving that so-called "Marvel fatigue" just isn't a concern for general moviegoers.

At the time of press, the superhero film is sitting at an insane $1.274 billion, and while it's just slowly crawling towards the $1.3 billion mark now, before it falls out of cinemas entirely it'll probably be able to nail $1.31 billion, decisively bolstering it as the 10th highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Frozen ($1.29 billion).

It's a hell of a statement to bean-counting executives: people like diversity. Shocking.
