Predicting 20 Highest Grossing Movies Of 2019
Disney is going to clean house.
Though a movie's box office performance has no real bearing on its quality - looking at you, Venom - it is worth noting that the majority of the highest-grossing films in any single year are well-reviewed and largely enjoyed by general audiences.
Regardless, 2019 is sure to be a pivotal, boundary-breaking year for Hollywood, with Disney releasing an unprecedented number of films and widely expected to rake in more than $10 billion worldwide. This will make them the first studio in cinema history to generate that much revenue in a single year.
Without even accounting for anything else, Disney will release several entries into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a slew of live-action remakes of their classic animations and some much-anticipated sequels in both animation and live-action, all of which are sure-thing smash hits.
Elsewhere, an auteur filmmaker is likely to enjoy his greatest success to date, a franchise reboot will coast on brand appeal, and there's about to be a new champ of video game adaptations.
These 20 films are sure to post immense returns-on-investment over the coming months, breaking records and dropping jaws in the process...
20. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood ($500 Million)
Release Date: July 26
Quentin Tarantino is one of the most reliable auteurs at the box office, and with an all-star cast set to join him for his latest period romp - including the dynamite likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie - there's no chance in hell this thing's a miss.
The question, then, becomes just how high Once Upon a Time in Hollywood can go. DiCaprio's lengthy absence from the screen should help boost its audience appeal, and even with its release sandwiched between The Lion King and Hobbs & Shaw, it's generally aiming at very different audiences to those movies.
Our projected $500 million gross would make the film Q.T.'s biggest box office hit by quite a margin, exceeding Django Unchained's $425.4 million. It's a tall order, but with such a stacked cast and intriguing premise, it's easy to be optimistic.
