Worldwide Gross: $1.4 billion

Avengers 4 is still over two and a half years out, meaning we don't have a lot to go on here. Originally titled Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, Marvel and Disney smartly chose to give it an as-yet-unrevealed fresh moniker, but their original intention does reveal a little of what we can expect from the movie.

If it used to be known as a 'Part 2', then its safe to assume it'll be heavily connected to Avengers: Infinity War in terms of its content, and the title change is a clever PR move to convince audiences they won't be lost if they sit down to watch Avengers 4 without having watched 3. In reality, this could well be the case, and direct sequels like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 have seen a decline in box-office for this very reason.

The law of diminishing returns applies here too; Avengers: Age Of Ultron saw a drop-off of $100 million from the first movie, and the fact that we'd already seen all the characters 'team-up' meant that the sequel wasn't as special. Avengers 4 could suffer from a similar effect; Infinity War is promising to unite pretty much every major superhero to fight one epic battle, so by the time this next movie rolls around, we'll have seen it all.

Regardless, $1 billion is a lock, and it's purely a question of by how much it'll surpass that mark. It's complete guesswork from this point, but a final tally somewhere in the region of $1.4 billion seems a safe bet.
