Box Office Prediction: $1.6 billion Why It'll Be A Hit: Uh, it's Marvel for one, and considering that this is widely being touted as The Avengers 2.5, it's likely going to pull in an equivalent box office: if Iron Man 3 can make $1.21 billion, then a movie about superhero in-fighting is going to effortlessly leapfrog that figure, and probably beat last year's Age of Ultron, too ($1.4 billion). Its biggest obstacle is, of course, the original Avengers ($1.51 billion), but the idea of Iron Man and Cap wailing away on each other is just too delicious to ignore, and the smart #TeamCap/#TeamIronMan marketing has given the kiddies (who account for much of Marvel's audience) plenty to get tribal about. Why It Could Disappoint: There's a bigger chance of Gods of Egypt ending up as the year's highest-grossing movie than Civil War flopping, though superhero fatigue is very real, as we got a very mild taste of when everyone expected Age of Ultron to out-gross the original Avengers, and it made over $100 million less. It could certainly under-perform and pull in "only" $1.2-1.3 billion, especially as the movie's release is followed by the likes of Angry Birds, Alice and X-Men: Apocalpse (whereas The Avengers had no serious competition for weeks and weeks), but it's hard to imagine.
