Predicting Summer 2016's Highest Grossing Movies

2. Finding Dory

Box Office Prediction: $1.3 billion Why It'll Be A Hit: 2003's original made an astonishing $936.7 at the box office, and there's no reason to believe that this belated sequel won't soar past that figure, owing to both inflation (Nemo's gross in 2016 figures would be about $1.2 billion) and the fact that it can draw from the dual audience of those who grew up with the original and that many of those people now have their own children. Nemo is Pixar's second-highest grossing film to date, and Dory is likely to follow in the footsteps of the Toy Story sequels by serving up a successor that obliterates it at the box office, cementing its status as Pixar's new highest all-timer. For a whole month its only notable competition is The BFG, but even then, there's virtually no way Dory won't come out on top. Why It Could Disappoint: Even if it scores less then Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 on Rotten Tomatoes, nothing is stopping this financial juggernaut from tearing up the box office, but it's always possible that if the film feels rather unnecessary, its box office could drop off at around the billion-dollar mark. If it's good or even great, though, the sky's the limit.
