Box Office Prediction: $790 million Why It'll Be A Hit: The last two Ice Age movies grossed a ridiculous $884.4 million and $877.2 million respectively, so our conservative estimate could very well be off the mark if there's still an audience for these movies. Everyone loves Scrat, they're nicely animated and easily digestible movies that won't stick with you for long, and basically function well as babysitting aids for 90 minutes. Short of a disaster, this one's hitting nothing but net. Its only competition is Pete's Dragon three weeks after release: otherwise it's got a clear path to destroy the family-friendly box office. Why It Could Disappoint: The series has been long overdue the law of diminishing returns kicking in, and the fifth time up to bat could be the one, in large part because the last film was so bland and forgettable compared to the rest, which may have drained away parent and child enthusiasm alike. And of course, there's the fact that all the kids who grew up with these movies are now adults who may have grown weary of them (feeling old yet?).
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
