Predicting The 10 Highest Box Office Of 2015's Remaining Movies
7. Ant-Man - $500m
The name 'Marvel Studios' is enough to sell a movie to audiences these days, thanks to Kevin Feige and his army of superheroes becoming one of the industry's biggest brands less than a decade after the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The title character may not be a known quantity to many casual moviegoers, but that didn't exactly hinder the box office performance of Guardians of the Galaxy, which earned $774.2m last year.
Early reactions to the movie have been largely positive, with many praising the fact that Ant-Man organically fits into the MCU, rather than attempting to shoehorn in too much connective tissue and buildup to next year's Captain America: Civil War at the expense of its own narrative.
While the premise of a superhero that shrinks down to miniscule size and rides an ant into battle sounds ridiculous, so does the notion of a sentient tree and machine gun-toting raccoon, and that worked out alright in the end. Given the vastly increased popularity of the Marvel brand over the last few years, Ant-Man will likely out-earn previous introductory movies Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, but won't come close to matching the box office total of any of the studio's sequels.
