2. Shoo-In For Best Picture Win As Original Was Unjustly Ignored
When the original Psycho was released in 1960, it managed to garner a few Academy Award nominations, including a Best Director nod for Hitchcock. Unfortunately, the film itself wasn't nominated for Best Picture, being overlooked in favor of The Apartment, The Sundowners, Elmer Gantry, The Alamo and Sons and Lovers. Don't expect a repeat of this mistake by the Academy. This time, not only is Psycho a lock to get a nomination, it's pretty much a shoo-in for the win. What else could possibly beat it this year? Supposedly there are a couple World War II films coming out, which shows how unoriginal Hollywood can be. Then perhaps that upcoming Holocaust-comedy that just sounds offensive. And maybe since the Academy is so cookie cutter, they might nominate a couple films about old dead privileged British people. No, against that crop, Psycho's a sure shot to win Best Picture.
