Quentin Tarantino Vs. Robert Rodriguez: Which Filmmaker Is Best?

Best Overall Filmmaker: Quentin Tarantino

I have compared different aspects of both directors' careers, from their films to their skills and abilities, and I believe that out of these two supremely talented, creative and successful filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is the best director overall.

Some readers may have seen this coming a mile-off, while others may be disappointed with my decision, but for me Tarantino is a more recognisable and respected film-maker on a worldwide scale. His films have gone from being cult and independent to worldwide blockbusters, without Tarantino losing any of his integrity or skill. Rodriguez on the other hand, still remains quite the cult director who although is greatly liked in many circles of the Fanboy community, is not as high-profile a director as Tarantino has become.

Fame and fortune isn't everything however. There is no doubt that Rodriguez's films are incredibly entertaining and fun to watch. His diversity as a writer and director has meant that one year his films can be entertaining little kids from ages 5-12, while his next film will be rated R and 18 and have blood, guts and bad-ass Mexicans hacking people to pieces. The fact that he writes, directs, edits, animates, scores and even does voice-overs every now and then for his films, emphasises he is an extremely talented man who is even now in the process of setting up his own TV Network in America.

Though I have been greatly entertained and inspired over the years by Rodriguez, Tarantino literally blows me away with his films. Pulp Fiction is one of my all-time favourite films that I can watch over and over again, while Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained have proven to the entire world that Tarantino is still one of the most daring and brilliant film-makers around.

It is a shame that Tarantino has stated that he may only have two films left in him, and therefore his directing career may come to a close very soon, but at least he has stated that after film-making he will probably write fiction. As a lover of both films and literature, this news is very bitter-sweet for me, as although I am excited at the thought of a Tarantino novel, it will be a very sad day indeed for the world of cinema when this true pioneer calls cut for the last time.

Do you agree with my decisions? Do you think Tarantino is the better filmmaker, or do you think Rodriguez needs more love? Voice your comments below.
