Ranking: 20 Highest Grossing Horror Movies Of All Time

16. Resident Evil: Retribution

Screen Gems

Box Office: $240 million (#19)

The third and final Resident Evil movie on this list (yay!) is still basically a braindead trainwreck, but at least it boasts more balls-to-the-wall ambition than just about any other entry into the series.

Fully leaning into its own absurdity, Retribution finds a dementedly inventive excuse to deliver a location-hopping action-horror flick which resurrects many of the series' best characters because, well, why not?

It's still trash, but it's also unexpectedly meta, Milla Jovovich remains a blast in the lead role, and it feels much more in tune with its own silliness than the previous films.

If you're craving narrative logic or characters who resemble actual human beings, though, look literally anywhere else.
