Verdict: Chiwetel Ejiofor gives a stonking performance in this drama based on the life of minister Carlton Pearson, who was famously deemed a heretic after he claimed to doubt the existence of hell.

While it's a little slow in places, Ejiofor's quietly dignified turn, with strong support from the likes of Martin Sheen, Jason Segel, Danny Glover and Lakeith Stanfield, ensures this is a consistently intriguing meditation on the nature of faith.

It might be too slight for some tastes, but it's appropriately unassuming filmmaking that allows Ejiofor's work to come to the forefront.
