Ranking Colin Farrell's 10 Best Movie Performances
6. Minority Report - Danny Witwer
Colin Farrell’s early notices were enough to score him a role in a Steven Spielberg movie just a few films into his career. The result was a change of pace for the then-young, brash actor, playing a decent, honest man in a dystopian world awash with corruption.
It’s also a notably unshowy role for a man whose performances tend to be imbued with movie star boldness (for better and, occasionally, for worse). As Danny Witwer, he’s a government agent following protocol and fighting, to the best of his knowledge, the good fight. When our hero Anderton is accused of murder (or rather, pre-murder), Witwer is sent on his trail.
As Minority Report plays out and the corruption at the heart of the futuristic justice system unfolds, we see that Witwer has been made an unwitting pawn in a far-reaching conspiracy. Compared to the all-action Tom Cruise or sneering baddie Max Von Sydow, Farrell’s role is relatively low-key, and his work provides a sense of texture and shades of grey to Spielberg’s thriller.
