Ranking Every James Bond Film - From Worst To Best

12. Licence To Kill

The darkest and, until the arrival of Casino Royale, most brutal Bond film, Licence to Kill is still the only Bond picture to hold an age certificate of 15 in the UK. Originally intended to be titled Licence Revoked (a much more apt title), Timothy Dalton's second and final outing as 007 sees Bond go rogue, stripped of his official licence to kill, and, with only a little help from Q along the way, on his own in his mission to avenge the death of friend and CIA agent, Felix Leiter. Here, the lack of Dalton charm which made The Living Daylights tonally off is totally warranted, and the actor is great as a Bond with only vengeance on his mind. Bolstered by a great pair of villains (inc. a young Benicio Del Toro) and a drug related plot line that goes darker than the one in Live and Let Die, Licence to Kill is the highlight of Bond's 80s run, the truck sequence at the end serving as its zenith.
