Controversially, Warner Bros are working on a non-DCEU (or at least an annexed stand-alone) Joker origin movie, explaining how he got those scars. Jared Leto won't star and this version apparently won't be linked to any already introduced Joker.

Positives?

Any Joker movie is a marketing dream - particularly with the added kicker of casting a new actor and moving away from Jared Leto's - and if Warner Bros do The Killing Joke and firmly establish that it's just ONE origin possibility rather than the concrete canon, we'll be getting a film a lot of fans have been waiting a long time for.

Concerns?

Does anyone need an origin story for The Joker? Part of his fundamental appeal is the lack of established mythology around where he came from - allowing for interpretation is a big part of why he's so popular.

It's also rather a lot to ask for there to be two different Jokers operating at the same time, no matter how Warner Bros spin the difference.
