Box Office: Andrey Zvyagintsev's (The Return, Leviathan) Oscar-nominated Russian drama has grossed $2.7 million at the specialty box office, which is basically fine considering its small budget. It'll make millions more on home video though, given the limited nature of its theatrical release.

Verdict: If you've seen any of Zvyagintsev's prior works, you should know what to expect here: a slow-paced, beautifully shot, superbly acted and aggressively political film about the fractured state of the traditional family in contemporary Russia.

Loveless could probably stand to lose about 10 minutes of its 128 minute runtime, but the film nevertheless deploys a powerful slow creep that makes this tale of a missing child enormously involving right up to its harrowing finale.

It'll be too grim and miserable for some, but for those craving uncompromising drama at its finest, look no further.
