17. Velvet Buzzsaw

Box Office: Direct to Netflix.

Verdict: One of the year's biggest disappointments so far, Velvet Buzzsaw is a decent yet undeniably underwhelming reunion for writer-director Dan Gilroy and Jake Gyllenhaal following their fantastic Nightcrawler.

A surprisingly thin satire of the art world with bizarrely flat, TV-esque cinematography from Oscar-winning DP Robert Elswit, mediocre use of a top-notch cast and a total non-event of an ending, this sadly settled for being just OK.

Lower your expectations and it's certainly not a bad film, but given the hype and the talent involved, this should've been so, so much better.
