Box Office: The $9 million horror sequel is one of the most bizarre box office misfires in recent memory, for despite cracking $40 million worldwide, it's going to fall massively short of the original's $125.5 million final total.

Whether Blumhouse considers it successful enough for a sequel or not remains to be seen, but few could've seen such a brutal under-performance coming, especially for a sequel to a moderately well-received PG-13 horror film.

Verdict: One one hand a mildly ambitious attempt to shift genres within a franchise but on the other an unremarkable rehash of what came before, Happy Death Day 2U thrives on Jessica Rothe's again-charming performance, even if most of the big beats fall pretty flat.

Amusing trash to a point, but beyond the obvious commercial motivation, it has little reason to exist.
