Ranking January 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

3. The Post

The Post Tom Hanks Meryl Streep
Universal

RottenTomatoes Score: 88% (8.0/10)

Box Office: Though hardly a hit for director Steven Spielberg, The Post should double its $50 million price tag before its theatrical run is over.

Verdict: A workmanlike but thoroughly entertaining historical drama with typically excellent performances from Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, The Post's passionate plea for the media's freedom to publish couldn't feel more relevant today, despite the story taking place almost 50 years ago.

It might be too quiet and simple for some tastes, but aided by Spielberg's dynamic camerawork and one of John Williams' best musical scores in years - which certainly should've received an Oscar nod over his Star Wars: The Last Jedi score - there's a pleasantly old-school feel to this incredibly important drama.
