Ranking Joss Whedon's Projects - From Worst To Best

4. Dollhouse

A lot of people consider Firefly to be the great tragedy of Joss Whedon's filmography. It was an amazing show with interesting story lines and a cast that was beyond charismatic, but thanks to ham-fisted management by its network, it only lasted one series. But because it is well known for being a show with tremendous potential that was killed by Fox, it gets the credit it deserves.

That's not the case for Dollhouse. Sure, it got more than one season (largely because Fox was reluctant to get cancel-happy and experience another high profile embarrassment). But it never developed much of an audience, and in a lot of ways is the most underrated of all the Whedon projects. It was a tall order, convincing audiences to get attached to characters that by their very definition had no personality for a large part of the show's run.

But if you stuck with the show, your patience was rewarded. It managed to combine tense action sequences with contemplative musings about the nature of personhood, all while featuring characters who were engaging despite their transient nature.
