Box Office: Given the $165 million budget and enormous box office success of the original, it's pretty surprising that Resurgence kicked off its box office run substantially below expectations, possibly due to a so-so marketing campaign.

Though China will likely bail it out, it's certain to gross far less than the original's $817.4 million final tally, leaving the future of the franchise in doubt.

Verdict: Few expected a legitimately good film out of this long-awaited follow-up, but did it need to be so dull? Despite so many cast members returning and so many great actors joining the cast, Resurgence felt surprisingly low-key.

Sure, the action is fun, the CGI is incredible and Jeff Goldblum is, well, Jeff Goldblum, but the new characters are for the most part absolutely terrible, and it just feels messy and rushed throughout.
