13. The Neon Demon

Finding Dory Warcraft Central Intelligence Independence Day Resurgence
Amazon Studios

RottenTomatoes Score: 48% (5.5/10)

Box Office: Without the presence of Nicolas Winding Refn's frequent star Ryan Gosling, The Neon Demon is going to face an uphill struggle financially. With a price tag of $7 million, the film has made around $1 million so far, an undeniably poor result considering that it opened on almost 800 screens.

Verdict: The Neon Demon is everything you should expect from a Refn film: it's visually gorgeous, full of terrific actors...and quite thin when it comes to plot and character.

Audiences and critics alike are divided on the film just as they were his previous, Only God Forgives, some lauding it as a complex masterpiece, while others deride it as nonsensical hogwash.

One thing is clear, though: Refn is a singular filmmaker with a sure vision, whether you like it or not.
