Ranking November 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
8. A United Kingdom
RottenTomatoes Score: 88% (6.7/10)
Box Office: Financial information isn't yet available, but it'd be a shocker if this one wasn't at least a solid hit.
Verdict: A quintessential example of Oscar bait done well, A United Kingdom makes the most of its starcrossed historical romance thanks to strong direction from Amma Asante and a stonking performance by the ever-excellent David Oyelowo.
Rosamund Pike provides sturdy support even if she's in the movie a little less than you might expect, and Jack Davenport is deliciously detestable as the bureaucratic villain intent on getting in the way of the central love story.
It probably won't do much business at the Oscars because it's a little too safe and milquetoast, but it's absolutely rock solid as an emotional, achingly human drama.
