Ranking November 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
7. Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them
RottenTomatoes Score: 76% (6.8/10)
Box Office: On a $180 million budget, Beasts is close to tripling its cost already, and while its total will probably pale compared to the later Harry Potter movies, it's an absolutely strong showing in terms of setting up a new tangential Potterverse franchise.
Verdict: Though critics largely went rather easy on this movie, for Potter fans, it's going to be an effortlessly alluring concoction, thanks to a number of charming performances (Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol and Colin Farrell were best-of-show), a distinct expansion of the universe, and a ton of cute creatures to behold.
It's a deeply flawed film in terms of its protagonist, the rather underwhelming central plot and the "final boss" if you like, but hopefully this solid first showing will tell J.K. Rowling to write something a little less safe and more daring next time.
