Box Office: The period drama cost just $10 million, and was acquired by Netflix for a huge $12.5 million back in January, so its bases are already covered.

Verdict: One of the most buzzed-about projects from this year's Sundance Film Festival, Mudbound is a terrifically-acted look at racism and PTSD through the lens of 1940s rural America, and whether or not the Academy can bring itself to nominate a movie that went direct to Netflix, it will no doubt endure as a classic of the genre.

The direction, script, performances and especially Rachel Morrison's eye-wateringly good cinematography add up to make this a major credit to Netflix's increasingly diverse line-up of quality films. An Oscar nomination or two would seal the deal nicely.
