Box Office: Rushed out for Halloween without Jack Black and touting a mere $35 million budget - compared to the original's $84 million - the slapdash sequel hasn't even doubled its budget after three weeks on release.

Even with the Halloween boost, it'll be lucky to crack half the original's $150.2 million final total, most likely killing the franchise.

Verdict: Aside from the very occasional clever joke, this is a dispassionate, joyless follow-up low on action, and even when it finally ramps up in act three, it's not terribly interesting, exciting or imaginative.

Jack Black has a pathetic five-minute cameo near the end that feels like it was shot during his lunch break while working on another movie nearby, and the flat new characters can't even begin to fill the huge void he leaves behind.
