Ranking Taika Waititi Films From Worst To Best
1. What We Do In The Shadows
The best vampire film ever made?
Of course, the vampire genre is filled with tropes and rehashes, and it can be really difficult to find one that has some degree of originality. What We Do in the Shadows decides to take all of those tropes and ridicule them to hilarious effect.
Starring Waititi, Jermaine Clement and Jonny Brugh as three vampire roommates living in a house share in Wellington, the film is delivered in a mockumentary style as we follow these bloodsuckers around and explore their night-to-night lives.
What We Do in the Shadows is consistently funny throughout, with a remarkable amount of jokes still landing even on repeat viewings. Waititi has also shown his clear appreciation for the genre by making fun of it in smart and unexpected ways, rather than just formulaic jokes and slapstick chukles.
All of the characters here are memorable and defined, and when the credits roll you're sad you can't spend more time with them. This genius concept has also been adapted into a television show which manages to stands on its own as a fantastic addition to the mythos with equally brilliant characters and humour.
While its all obviously subjective, What We Do in the Shadows is arguably Taika Waititi's greatest cinematic achievement to date.
