When Hans Christian Andersen wrote his tale of The Snow Queen, I bet he didn't see the financial whack it would have upon children around 170 years later.
Frozen took the world by storm when it came out in late 2013. Children everywhere were captivated by its story and visuals, whilst endlessly singing 'Let It Go' as loud as they could to anybody that would listen.
The story of two sisters, one with magical abilities, one without. It holds a place with the best Disney has made in the 21st century for its moral compass, charm, and twist on the classic Disney story cliché.
Taking over $1.2 billion against a production budget of $150 million, and an RT score of 90%, Frozen spawned several short films and a full sequel. Though it may lack a certain je ne sais quoi that some of the films further up the list demonstrate, Frozen's impact spoke volumes for its heart, which clearly captured the attention of millions around the world.
It also represented the full emergence of a new era for Disney animation because the three or four films that came along before it, whilst critically successful, didn't do the same kind of numbers that Frozen did.
Wreck-it Ralph, Winnie The Pooh, The Princess And The Frog, and Tangled all had their positives, but Frozen was the hit Disney had wanted ever since the '90s ended.
