Ranking The Coen Brothers Movies From Worst To Best
7. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Perhaps as close as we’ll ever get to a Coen Brothers musical, O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a crime comedy-drama starring George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake-Nelson as a trio of escaped convicts in hunt of an apparent treasure that Clooney's character has stashed away.
The film is loosely based on Homer’s The Odyssey but set in rural Mississippi and absolutely jammed full of the Coens brilliant writing and interpretations. The soundtrack is fantastic throughout the film and drives it forward through each weird and wonderful scenario that the characters find them in. It may be one of the most creative and clever re-tellings of an old story ever put to screen.
It is a riveting watch and a consistently gut-busting laugh throughout and a truly unique experience from the masterful minds of the Coens. Each actor is on top form and, as such, no one steals the limelight from anyone else which makes for a fantastic ensemble piece that is rightfully considered one of the Coen’s funniest and most enjoyable efforts to date.
