Ranking What Was Really The Best Horror Movie Every Year 1990-2021

16. 2006: Pan's Labyrinth

Pans Labyrinth
Warner Bros. Pictures

2006 was a year of terrible sequels (The Grudge 2) and unwanted remakes (The Hills Have Eyes), and was such a mess for horror fans that its best movie wasn't even advertised as a horror at all.

The tale of a young girl (Ivana Baquero) who journeys through a world of strange creatures and a quest for immortality, Guillermo del Toro's magnum opus Pan's Labyrinth has always been described as a dark fantasy and war film, but it's hard to watch it without being thoroughly disturbed by the horrific visuals of his creation.

With phenomenal effects, villains and an unpredictable finale, Pan's Labyrinth is a horror movie through-and-through, and one that everyone should see in their lifetime.
