Re-Casting The Lord Of The Rings Movies If They Came Out Today
9. Boromir - Idris Elba
Ah, at last we come down to it. The Fellowship. Out of all the casting choices, these are the ones that NEED to be right. So let's start with a heavy hitter, shall we?
Idris Elba is no stranger to the limelight. He's been in all the big franchises: Fast and Furious, Star Trek, Marvel, that one where he plays an apocalypse cowboy and fights the stripper from Magic Mike...
Yet Elba is not some brainless leading man, content to rest on the laurels of his stunning good looks. Where he's really at home, is at playing broken and complicated characters, like his award winning turns in Luther and Beasts of No Nation. This is exactly the kind of traits needed to play Boromir, the one truly flawed member of the Fellowship, who betrays Frodo only to valiantly redeem himself in his final moments. Idris Elba's massive back catalogue has shown he'd do both quite convincingly.
The only minor problem with this choice is that Elba might be too big for the role. Still, as long as no one tells him he dies before the end of the first film there won't be a problem. Just don't mention Sean Bean is in the running. That's a dead giveaway.
