8. Gimli - Ben Wong
Look, the angry Scottish Dwarf stereotype has become more than a little played out in the last few years. If there's one fantasy trope Amazon would need to update, its the idea that Dwarves all act like Wee Mental Craig from Glasgow. Give Gimli the interpretation he deserves.
A good way to do this is to make him more faithful to the books, less a gruff, headstrong drunkard and more of a stoic and proud warrior. And for that you need Benedict Wong.
The faithful warrior type is already well within Wong's wheelhouse, having risen into the public eye with his portrayal as Doctor Strange's servant Wong in the Marvel Franchise. Wonder if it helps to have the same name as his character? Maybe he should legally change his name to Gimli Wong. No, wait, that's a terrible idea.
This isn't to say that Wong isn't a versatile actor. If some levity is indeed needed, Wong had a brilliant comic turn as the drunkard Mr Wickfield in the recent adaptation of David Copperfield. Whatever interpretation you're preferable to, Gimli Wo- BENEDICT Wong's got you covered. Give that man a big axe and some salted pork already.
