Steven Soderbergh's Presence is certainly one of the more intriguing horror films of the last few years - a bold experiment in which the entire film takes place from the perspective of a ghost.
Yet as a result this is also one of those films that's never as bracingly effective as during an initial viewing, where you don't know what's coming and simply give yourself over to its tantalising central gimmick.
And there are also those who were left disappointed by the film's more subdued horror elements, given that it really functions more as a supernatural drama with a thriller fringe. One can't imagine many of those would ever want to revisit it.
But really, even with its climactic twist, Presence packs all of its wow factor into that first sit. No repeat watch will ever replicate that joy of discovery, and there's nothing wrong with that.
